Explanation:

Given Two stations p and q are 150 km apart on a straight track. One train starts from p at 8 a.M and travels towards q at 15 kmph. Another train starts from q at 9 a.M and travels towards p at a speed of 30 kmph. At what time will they meet?

  • Assume both the trains meet after t hours after 8 am.
  • Distance covered by train starting from P in t hours = 15 t km
  • Distance covered by train starting from Q in (t – 1) hours = 30 (t – 1)
  • So total distance = 150 km
  • 15 t + 30 (t – 1) = 150
  • 15 t + 30 t – 30 = 150
  • 45 t = 180
  • Or t = 180 / 45
  • Or t = 4 hrs

So they will meet after 4 hours after 8 am that is they will meet at 12 pm.
