Two students appeared at an examination one of them secured 9 marks more than the other

let the marks secured by first person be 'x'

then marks secured by the second person will be 'x-9'

first person's marks was 56% of the sum of their marks obtained by them are

x = 56%( x +(x-9))

x= 56 /100( 2x - 9)

100×x = 56(2x - 9)

50x = 28(2x-9)

25x = 14(2x -9)

25x = 28x - 126

126 = 28x - 25x

126 = 3x

126/3 = x

42 = x = marks secured by the first person

Then marks secured by the second person will be

x-9 = 42-9 = 33
