Two students, Dustin and Cathy, appeared in an examination. The probability that Dustin will get question A is 0.05 and that Cathy will get question A is 0.10. The probability that both will get question A is 0.02. Find the probability that at least one of them will get question A.

Answer:

The Answer is 0.13

Step-by-step explanation:

Let P(D) be the probability that Dustin gets the question and P(C) be the probability that Cathy gets it.

Now at least one of them should get it so, we can break it down like this

P(D) + P(C) -P(Dustin and Cathy getting it together)

*P(X) is the probability that an event X happens, Here D is an event where dustin gets the question.C is the event Cathy gets it.

Since there is an overlap ie. they get it together we must subtract that from the total P(D) + P(C)

So hence P(at least one getting it is)=P(D) + P(C) - P(Dustin and Cathy getting it together)

P(at least one getting it is) =0.05 + 0.10 - 0.02 = 0.13
