Answer: The distance between their tops is (c) 10m.

Step-by-step explanation: Refer to attached image:

In rectangle ABCD:

  • AB = DC = 6m    - (i)
  • AD = BC = 5m

ED = EA + AD

=> 13 = EA + 5

=> EA = 13 - 5 = 8m   - (ii)

In Δ EAB:

  • AB = 6m [from (i)]
  • EA = 8m [from (ii)]
  • ∠ A = 90°
  • EB² = AB² + EA² [Using Pythagoras' Theorem]

=> EB² = 6² + 8²

=> EB² = 36 + 64 = 100

=> EB = √100 = 10m.

The distance between their tops is (c) 10m.
