Answer

Mendel's monohybrid cross represented the F2 generation to be in the genotypic ratio 1:2:1 i.e., TT:Tt:tt. This is condensable in the form of a binomial expression

( ax + by )² as

( 1/2T + 1/2t )² where a & b=1/2.

This is because the gametes segregate with a frequency of 1/2 i.e., Mendel's law of segregation.

( 1/2T + 1/2t )² = (1/2T + 1/2t ) × (1/2T + 1/2t ) = 1/2.1/2TT + 1/2.1/2Tt + 1/2.1/2Tt + 1/2.1/2tt = 1/4 TT + 1 /4Tt + 1 /4Tt + 1/4tt = 1/4TT + 1/2 Tt + 1/4tt

which is exactly equal to the genotypic ratio of plants obtained at F2.
