Under Balaji Baji Rao the Maratha power was at it greatest because he shifted the capital from Satara to Poona. During his reign, the Maratha armies reached as far as Punjab and Rajasthan in the north and Bengal and Odisha in the east.

Baji Rao, also known as Bajirao Ballal, was the greatest Peshwa of the Maratha empire.

He became the Peshwa in 1720. He is credited to expand Maratha empire across the country, and he never lost a battle across his 20 years of reign.

He took full advantage of Mughal decline and started aggressively expanding across different parts of north India.
