unification of Britain:

The unification of Britain was a strange case because it was a result of a long drawn process and not a sudden upheaval or revolution

the British isles had various ethnic identities (English, Welsh, Scot)

the English people (England) people started to become rich and prosperous due to industrial development. the English parliament as a result became more powerful and seized power from monarchy 1688

England decided to expand territory. England had a higher population of protestant Christians.

they along with the help of protestant population in Scotland were able to capture Scotland. the happened with The Act of Union (1707). this was the formation of united kingdom of great Britain.

people of Scotland lost their identity and were forced to behave like Englishmen.

British again supported the protestants in northern Ireland to take over the catholic population. Wolfe tone and united Irishmen tried to revolt but failed.

Ireland finally became a part of Britain in 1801.

Unification of Germany:

1. Nationalist feeling were widespread among middle class farmers.

2. In 1848, they tried to unify Germany in to a nation.

3. The feeling was repressed by the combined forces of the monarchy and the military.

4. From the Prussia took on the leadership of unification of Germany .

5. It's chif minister Otto von Bismarck was the architect of this process.

6. Three wars over seven years ended in Prussian victory and completed the process of unification.

Unification of Italy:

1. The process of unification of ITALY was the work of 3 main leaders, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Count Cavour, and Victory Emmanuel II . 

2 Italy was divided into 7 states in which only Sardinia-Piedmont was the only region ruled by a Italian Princely house.

3 The northern Region was ruled by Austrian-Habsburg dynasty, The central was ruled by Popes by France and the Southern region by the Bourbon kings of Spain.

4The unification of Italy started with the secret societies formed by Mazzini like the Young Italy and the Young Europe.

5 Count Cavour with his tack full diplomacy with France defeated the Austrians and freed the northern Italy.

6 Garibaldi with his armed volunteers called red shirts defeated the Bourbon kings of Spain freeing the kingdom of 2 sicilies.

7 Victory Emmanuel the 2nd defeated the popes of France and freeing the southern region and completing the unification of Italy and he was proclaimed the emperor.

Unification of Germany

  • middle class people try to unite Germany but suppressed by monarchy and military with the support of land owing classes.
  • Prussia emerged to unite germany.
  • the king William I became the emperor of united Germany.
  • Otto Van Bismarck became the architecture of this process.
  • there are 3 Wars of Seven years including Austria, Denmark and France completed german unification.
  • curruncy banking, legal and jurisdiction was legalised.

Unification of Italy

  • guseppe mazzini , had made efforts to unite italy by forming secret society called young Italy but it falied.
  • this led to the king victor Ennamuel II taking responsibility to unify Italian state through wars for which he got wholehearted supprort of his chief minister count cavour. through the tactful diplomatic alliance with france, cavour defeated Austrians forces in 1859.
  • Further, Guiseppe Garibaldi with his Armed volunteers also joined the efforts. they succeeded in gaining the support of local peaseants and freeing the Italy state fr om bourbon rulers.
  • with this, the unification process of Italy completed.
