Concept:

The substitution method is the method in which the value of one variable is found and then substituted in another equation to get the value of another variable.

Given:

2x - 3y + 15 = 0,

And,

3x - 5 = 0

Find:

We are asked to solve using the substitution method.

Solution:

We have,

2x - 3y + 15 = 0     .....(i)

And,

3x - 5 = 0     .....(ii)

Now,

From Equation (ii),

We get,

3x - 5 = 0

3x = 5

i.e.

x = 5/3

Now,

Substituting the value of x in Equation (i),

i.e.

2x - 3y + 15 = 0

i.e.

2 × ( 5/3) - 3y + 15 = 0

10/3 - 3y + 15 = 0

Now,

Rewrite the above equation,

3y = 15 + 10/3

On solving we get,

3y = 55/3

So,

y = 55/9

So,

The solution to the given equation is x = 5/3 and y = 55/9.

Hence, we can say that the solution to the given equation is x = 5/3 and y = 55.
