(i) p(x) = x3 – 2x2 – 4x – 1; g(x) = x + 1

Let g(x) = x + 1

x + 1 = 0

 x = -1

P(-1) = (-1)3 – 2(-1)2 – 4(-1) – 1

= -1 -2 x 1 + 4 – 1

= -4 + 4 = 0

∴ Remainder = 0.
