The Vietnamese students believed that the Japanese government would help them in gaining Vietnam's independence. That's why they started a branch of Restoration Society
But unfortunately,
In 1908, the Japanese 'Ministry of interior', (or 'Ministry of home affairs') crushed this society. They did not help those students but instead, they began to oppress (or ignore) them
So, many Vietnamese including Phan Boi Chau were forced to seek exile in countries such as China and Thailand
