The Government of India has established many programs like the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and The Integrated Disease Surveillance Project which help in preventing occurrence of diseases at the community level.

The local authorities allow the community health centres and other primary health centres to monitor and take care of the regulatory systems regarding the health conditions in the surroundings.

The primary objectives of these community health centres is to reduce the exposure of diseases in the surroundings by enforcing sanitary codes like monitoring of water quality, hygiene of slaughterhouses, and food safety.

However, it has been reported that there are wide gaps in the regulation of a good system and in the monitoring and evaluation of the public health systems due to  lack of leadership, and commitment of the health centres and community involvement.
