The volume of 50 g of a substance is 20 cm3. If the density of water is 1 gcm3, will the substance float or sink?  Mass of substance (m) = 50 g  Volume of substance (V) = 20 cm^3  Density of substance (D) = m/v = 50g/20cm^3 = 2.5gcm^-3  The substance will sink in water, as its density (2.5 gcm^-3) is more than the density of water (1 gcm^-3)
