There are six different codons all of which will eventually produce a leucine (Leu) in the protein chain. There arealso six for serine (Ser). In fact thereare only two amino acids which have only one sequence of bases to codefor them - methionine (Met) and tryptophan (Trp).

Amino acids are consist of a two-carbonbond. One of the carbons is a fragment of a group called the carboxyl group(COO-). This group is made up of onecarbon (C) and two oxygen (O) atomsas well. That carboxyl group has a negative charge, because it is a carboxylic acid that has lost itshydrogen atoms
