acids are the compounds which when dissolve in water give hydronium ion as the only positively charged ion. they are proton doners. e.g. HNO3
bases are the compounds which reacts with the hydrogen ions from the acids to give salt and water. they are proton acceptors. e.g. fe(oh)2
