An alloy is a homogeneous mixture of two or more metals or a metal and a non-metal. It is prepared by mixing the metals in molten form and then cooling the mixture. The electrical conductivity and melting point of an alloy is less than that of pure metals.

it is used in making different substances like fuse of circuit ,brass ,etc

Similarity

Amalgam are also mixture of two or more element or compound but it must contain mercury (Hg scientific name hydrargyrem ) .

All amalgam are called alloy but all alloy are not amalgam .

why it's made

Alloy provide strength , protection from corison etc according to need to element also cheap and durable so the alloy is made .
