Hey friend,
Antonio is money lender who lends money without interest only in the moto of helping people. Moreover, he signed a bond only for the sake of his friend who was in urgent need of money, being unsure of the arrival of goods. He was even ready to sacrifice his life for Bassanio, and this proves the good qualities of Antonio.
Shylock, a Jewish money lender, the one who is in thirst for money always had an hatred towards Antonio, since he is lending money to people without interest wherein Shylock had doubled the interest of the money given. He was always in seek of opportunity to put Antonio down, and so he availed the opportunity and set the bond cruelly in an aim to kill Antonio.
Antonio is always a better person, humble by heart, helps the needy and is trustworthy.
Hope this helped
