autosomes are the chromosomes which are are same in every individual; only differing in the forms of gene present in them. otherwise the location of genes that express the character's such as the protein manufacture, DNA replication etc are present in the same type of chromosome in different individuals. but the sex chromosomes which are two in number differ in different persons. if one is male then it will have X and Y chromosome while the female contain both X chromosome. this pair determines the sex of the person hence called sex chromosomes and the remaining 44 chromosomes determines the parental characteristics in the offspring. since they are present in every individual; male or female, they are called autosomes.
