What are bryophytes ? Give two examples of bryophytes and explain them.

Aryan3387: Examples. Hornworts, liverworts, and mosses are all examples of bryophytes. These plants are an important structural component of many damp habitats. For example, moss grows into a dense covering like a mat.

Here \: is \: the \: answer \: of \: your \: question

`\textbf{Bryophytes}`

Bryo means mosses and phyton means plant. It includes the simplest land plants. They grow mostly in moist and shady places. They also grow in dry, aquatic and saprophytic conditions.

Reproduction takes place in them by adventitious branches and fragmentation.

`\textbf{Classification of Bryophytes}`

1) Liverwort

2) Mosses

3) Hornwort

`\textbf{1) Liverwort}`

→ Liverwort grow mostly in shady and moist areas.

→ Their body is thalloid.

→ Asexual reproduction by fragmentation and by specialised structure called gamma.

→ Asexual buds called gemma cups located on the thalli. Male and female organs are produced either on same or different thalli.

→ Ex :- Marchantia.

`\textbf{2) Mosses}`

→ Mosses occurs in tropic parts of Antarctica and also in desert's.

→ The gametophytic plant body is leafy shows radial symmetry.

→ Gametophytic consists of two stages namely,
a) Protonema stage, which develops directly from spore.
b) Leafy stage, which develops from the secondary protolemma.

→ Vegetative reproduction by fragmentation and budding. Male and female organs are antheridia and archegonia.

→ After fertilization, zygote develops into sporophyte. The sporophyte is differentiated into foot, capsula and seta.

→ Ex :- Funaria.

Bryophytes are a group of plant species that reproduce via spores rather than flowers or seeds. Most bryophytes are found in damp environments and consist of three types of non-vascular land plants: the mosses, hornworts, and liverworts.

Bryophyte Characteristics_______________❗❗⤵

The following characteristics are exhibited by bryophytes:

☺1@)) Bryophytes are non-vascular land plants. Although they do exhibit specialized structures for water transportation, they are devoid ofvascular tissue.

☺2@))Bryophytes grow primarily in damp environments but can be found growing in diverse habitats ranging from deserts, the artic, and high elevations.

☺3@)) Since bryophytes do not depend on root structures for nutrient uptake like vascular plants, they are able to survive in environments that vascular plants cannot (e.g., on the surface of rocks).

The three main types of bryophytes consist of the liverworts, mosses, and hornworts, each of which encompasses several hundred different species.
