Covalent bonds usually occur between nonmetals. For example, in water(H2O) each hydrogen (H) and oxygen(O) share a pair of electrons to make a molecule of two hydrogen atomssingle bonded to a single oxygen atom.

Dear Student,

◆ Covalent compounds -

  • Compounds which are formed by sharing of electrons are called as covalent compounds.
  • They contain covalent bonds.
  • They have low melting and boiling points.
  • They are usually non-conductors of electricity.
  • They are usually insoluble in water.
  • For example - Carbon dioxide, nitrogen gas, oxygen gas, methane, etc.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
