Hi friend,

The figure of speech is an expression which creates a special effect by taking language beyond the literal sense. Some figures of speech are:-

1. Alliteration is the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words. Like - Sister Suzy sewing socks for soldiers.

2.
An epigram is a brief, interesting and polished saying giving expression to a striking thought. "I can resist everything but temptation."

3. Antithesis is arrangement of words designed to stress contrasts. Man proposes, God disposes.

4.Hyperbole is an extreme exaggeration, or overstatement. 'The boy ate everything in the house.'

5.Personification is assigning the qualities of a human to something that isn't alive, like nature or emotions. 'It is better, O day, that you go to your rest.'

6. Irony is an
expression whose intended meaning is quite contrary to the apparent meaning, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.'There are roaches infesting the office of a pest control service.'

7.Metaphor is
a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. 'Variety is the spice of life.'

8. Simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. 'He fights like a lion.'
