When one or more hydrogen atoms of saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons or aromatic hydrocarbons are replaced by corresponding number of halogen atoms, (Cl, Br, I), then the new compounds obtained are called,halogen derivatives of alkanes or ofarenes.
