They are composed of opposite charged ions anions and cations which are held together by electrostatic forces and they arrange themselves for minimum electron electron repulsion EX NaCl (sodium chloridhe )

These solids are composed of oppositely charged ions arranged in alternative space with uneven atomic size and with a strong electrostatic force existing in between the ions which makes them electrically inert in their solid state......
