In simple words, Methanogens can be defined as a term which collectively refers to the microbes which produce methane in large quantities.
Extra Information:-
- Methanogens are anaerobic in nature.
- In anaerobic sludge digesters, the methanogens digest the bacteria and the fungi present in the activated sludge.
- Methane is not the only gas produced by the methanogens after the digestion of bacteria and fungi. The methanogens produce a mixture of gases such as methane, Hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide.
