Monatomic is made up of two words "mono", "atom" which means single atom. For example helium, neon.,argon all contain single atom.
Diatomic is made up of two words "di", "atom" which means two atoms. For example hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen all contain two atoms.
Tetra atomic is made up of two words " tetra", "atom" which means four atoms. For example, phosphorous contains four atoms.
A polyatomic element is formed of two or more atoms that are covalently bonded. For example, selenium , sulphur
