[PARTS OF SPEECH]

There are eight parts of speech - noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, adjective, conjunction, preposition and interjection. Now discussing all of them in brief -

Noun: Name of place, person, thing, animal, etc. is called noun. For example :-

  • Radha is going to school.

Pronoun: any any word of group of words that replaces a noun is called a pronoun. some examples of pronoun include he, she, it, they, we, ours, etc. Example of pronoun in a sentence :-

  • Radha is going to school. She is carrying a beautiful red bag.

Adjective: Any word that describes a noun is called an adjective. In the above sentence "she is carrying a red bag" the the word bag is also a noun and red is describing it. So "red" is an adjective.

Verb: A word or a group of words that shows an action is called a verb. In the above sentence "Radha is going to school", "going" is the action word and hence it is a verb.

Adverb: A word a group of words the tell you something more about the verb is called an adverb. For example :-

  • Radha is going to school slowly.

Preposition: A word that establishes the relationship between noun, pronoun or phrases with other parts of the sentence is called a preposition. Examples of preposition are :- above, below, in, under, inside, outside, etc.

  • The cat is under the tree.

Conjunction: A word or group of words that joins words or phrases and sentences together is called conjunction. Examples of conjunctions :- and, because, but, for, or, etc. Example of conjunction used in a sentence :-

  • Shyam is studying hard today because he has an exam tomorrow.

Interjection: A word or a group of words that expresses emotions is called interjection. Interjections are usually followed by an exclamation mark. Examples of interjection are wow, ouch, hey, oh, etc. Example of interjection used in a sentence :-

  • Wow! this book is amazing.
