Rocks are natural mass of mineral matter on the crust of the earth. They are composed of one or more minerals and include the hard and compact rocks like granite and diamond as well as loose particles such as clay, mud, sand, etc. Rocks can have different colours, sizes and texture.

On the basis of formation, appearance, and the kind of minerals which constitute them, geologists have classified rocks into three major groups ;
1 Igneous rock,
2 Sedimentary rock and
3 metamorphic rock.
