what are salts? explain the type of salts with suitable example of each
Answers
Answer:
salts are those substances. which form when acid and base react . The positive ion of base combine with negative ion of acid.
There are two types of salts:-
Acid Salt
Normal Salt
Explanation:
Salts: Salts are the compounds obtained by neutralization of acid and base. The positive part comes from a base whereas negative part comes from an acid. On the basis of above concept salts are of four type.
(i) Salt of strong acid and base: e.g. NaCI, K2SO4 etc. these salts on reaction with water give strong acid and strong base. Therefore solution of such salts will be neutral. i.e. its pH value will be 7.
(ii) Salt of weak add and strong base: e.g. CH3COONa, K2CO3 etc. These salts on reaction with water give weak acid and strong base i.e. solution of such salts will be strongly basic and hence the pH value will be more than 7.
(iii) Salt of strong acid and weak base: e.g. NH4CI. The salt on reaction with water give strong acid and weak base i.e. solution of such salts will be strongly acidic and hence the pH value will be less than 7.
(iv) Salt of weak acid and weak base: e.g. CH3COONH4, (NH4)3PO4. These salts on reaction with water give weak acid and weak base i.e. solution of such salts will be neutral and hence the pH value will be 7.
