what are sedimentary rocks how are sedimentary rocks formed
Answers
Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is deposited out of air, ice, wind, gravity, or water flows carrying the particles in suspension. This sediment is often formed when weathering and erosion break down a rock into loose material in a source area.
☆What are sedimentary rocks?
Rocks such as limestone and sandstone, formed by the collection of other small fragments called sediments, are called sedimentary rocks.
☆How are sedimentary rocks formed?
After the formation of igneous rocks from the solidification of molten magma, igneous rocks hit and crack each other to form loose small fragments.
These small fragments are know as sediments.
The agents of the earth such as wind, air and water transport and deposit these sediments. Thus, these depositions are called sedimentary rocks.
These rocks are known to have fossils, the remains of dead animal/plants, inside them. Sedimentary rocks cover the majority of the Earth's rocky surface.
