The only time corrosion becomes advantageous is when a surface produces an oxide film that will keep corrosion from proceeding further. This happens to aluminum metal, for example.
Disadvantages of corrosion include loss, contamination, and deterioration of the appearance of a material. You also get safety, health and environmental risks when corrosion occurs, especially in a manufacturing plant setting. Aside from these, you'd need to spend more money in order to maintain or keep machines from stopping/failing due to corrosion. Lastly, you get very costly plant shutdowns whenever failures happen in a plant.
