During pro phase in cell division,

The centrioles form lash like substances called astral rays.The astral rays and the centrioles are collectively called aster.

The astral rays elongate and connect with the astral rays of other centriole at the opposite end called the spindle fibres.

All the fibers that radiate from centrosome are called SPINDLE FIBERS(also microtubules).

They are called spindle fibers because with the union of chromosomes, they form the mitotic spindle.
