Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) associates with a set of proteins to form ribosomes. These complex structures, which physically move along an mRNA molecule, catalyze the assembly of amino acids into protein chains. They also bind tRNAs and various accessory molecules necessary for protein synthesis.

Basic Constituents and Role of ribosomes:

The basic constituents are,

1. Larger sub units

2. Smaller sub units.

Role of ribosomes in protein synthesis:

Ribosomes give structure on which protein formation initiates. The mRNA attaches to 30S subunit of ribosome to shape commencement complex. The main role of ribosome is its capacity to catalyze the development of peptide bonds between amino acids, with the goal that the amino acids are fused into proteins.
