1. They lie below the himalayan river in the north and peninsular plateau in the south.

2. They are made up.of deposits pf alluvium.

3. They cover an area of 7 laklh sq. km

4. on the basis of difference of releif tjey are divided into 4 parts- bhabar, terai, bhangar and kankar.
