The drafting of Indian Constitution was done by an assembly of elected representatives called the constituent assembly. The elections for this assembly was done in July 1946. Its first meeting was held in Dec 1946.
It finally drafted the indian constitution on 26 Nov 1949 but it came to effect in Jan 1950.
This assembly comprises of 385 members, from which 292 were elected form provisional assembly the remaining 93 members were elected from princely states.
