Answer:

The different factors which determine the different diets for different people are -

  1. Economic Determinants - This includes cost and income. The ability of a person to buy a specific food is affordable or not is the primary determinant of food choice. The low-income group has a more unbalanced diet because of the cost of the food and lesser income as compared to the middle and high-income group.
  2. Physical Determinants - This includes skills, access, time, and education. Availability of the food is associated with the geographical locations and transport links. The “food desserts” is a residential area with very few or zero shops. Education is the factor because educated people are more aware of healthy eating. Time constraint is a factor as well for the people who live alone and convenient to eat any kind of food.
  3. Biological Determinants - This includes taste, appetite, and hunger. Hunger and satiety level is different for a different person depending on the requirement of energy and nutrients. Taste and palatability (the pleasure of eating something in spite of the requirement of energy or nutrients from the food) are other factors that decide food choices.
  4. Psychological Determinants - This includes guilt, stress, and mood. Food can change an individual’s temperament or mood and this influence the food choice. Stress can also influence food choice as it is very individualistic. Some people eat more when they are stressed.
  5. Social Determinants - This includes culture, social class, and social context. Culture influences an impact on food preparation and diet choices. Socioeconomic classes have different food choices.
  6. Beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge about the food - These are also a factor in choice the of food. Knowledge about healthy food is very important to have a healthy diet.
