western disturbances are the winds originating in mediterranean sea which travels through Afghanistan , Iraq, pakistan etc. and then enter india causing rain in above mentioned states

weaster disturbance specially the one in winter , bring moderate to heavy rain in low -lying areas and heavy snow to mountainous area of the indian subcontinent. they are the causes of most winter and pre-monsoon season rainfall across north west india
