Acceleration is given as change in velocity/time
While in retardation condition
Formula is used with negative sign
That is -change of vel/time

Sangram11: I have asked formula not definition of Acceleration and Retardation
syedsajida: acceleration=change in velocity/time interval
Anonymous: Acceleration a = del v / del t
Anonymous: In retardation a= - delta v / Delta t

acceleration = v-u/t
retardation =u-v/t
where t=time
u= initial velocity or speed
v=final velocity or speed

Sangram11: Sorry it is wrong answer
akash219: it is right
Manasipatil9850: A = vf-vi/tf-ti
