Hey there !

Their overuse may decrease the soil fertility. They run off into the water bodies during rains and pollutes the rivers, etc.. They can percolate through soil thus, polluting the ground water.

♦ Fertilizers are the chemical substances which are prepared in factories and are added to the soil in order to restore it's mine nutrients.

♦ The fertilizers are nutrient specific, they are compact, concentrated and are therefore, easy to transport.

♦ Fertilizers have many advantages but they have some disadvantages (hazards) or harmful effects too:

⇒Fertilizers cause water pollution and also harm the soil texture.

⇒This water pollution also causes eutrophication leading to the death of many aquatic animals and also makes water unfit for human use.

⇒Fertilizers also change the soil chemistry and make it either too acidic or too alkaline.

⇒They provide probably short term benefits and also affect the hydration and aeration of the soil.
