As the density of ice is less than water, it floats on water. It is very important for the life in water. Ice does not allow water to absorb or release heat. So, in those places where winter is the season going on most of the year, there this property of ice is very effective. The ice does not allow water to be cool excessively. As the ice floats on the water, so it is very effective. As the temperature of water does not get very low, so the life of water is unharmed. It is the importance of lower density of ice to life as we know it on earth.
