1. in any country several services such as hospitals, post offices, banks are required. these can be considered as basic services.in a developing country govt. has to take responsibility for the provision of these services.

2. the development of agriculture and industry leads to the development of other services such as trade, transport etc..

3. as income level rises certain sections of the people start demanding other services like shopping, tour, eating out etc..

Tertiary sector is also known as service sector. Its importance is as follows:

a. Services from Hospitals, educational institutions, post and telegraph services, police and courts, banks, municipal corporations, insurance companies etc, are basic services.

b. By developing transport, communication, storage warehouses, etc, primary and secondary sectors are benefitted.

c. More services are demanded by people in the form of tourist spots, shopping, medical facilities in private hospitals, schools, etc, as a result of income level increase.

d. With development in Information and Technology, production in these services has reached considerable growth.

e. ATMs, PCOs, Internet etc, have providedmany services to people nowadays with the advent of Information and Technology, Communication services.
