For red D. magna, the molecular mass of the native Hb complex (ultracentrifugation, 583 kDa; MALLS, 590.4 kDa, red, and 597.5 kDa, pale) divided by the subunit mass (ESI‐MS: 37.715 kDa) results in 16 subunits per Hb macromolecule, independent of the method applied for the determination of the Hb complex mass.
