Litmus is said to be the natural indicator...

Example : take a solution of NaOH in a beaker, put a red litmus paper in it in order to check the change... You will observe that the red litmus paper will turn blue.. It is therefore concluded that NaOH solution is basic in nature... Hope it helps you!
