Hey mate,...

■ India has a large share in the world trade of cotton yarn, accounting for one fourth of the total trade.

■ However, India trade in garments is only 4 percent of the world's total.

■ Spining mills in india are competitive at the global level and capable of using all the fibres we produce.

■ The weaving,Knitting & processing unit cannot use much of the high quality yarn that is produce in the country.

■ There are some large and modern factories in these segment, but most of the production is in fragmented small units,which cater to the local market.

■ This mismatch is a major drawback for the industry.

  • The cotton textile industry of the country is thus facing both short-term and long-term problems. Former includes problems of high prices, shortage of raw materials, liquidity problems due to poor sales and accumulation of huge stocks due to poor demand in the market.

  • The cotton textile industry is reeling under manifold problems. The major problems are the following: Sickness: Sickness is widespread in the cotton textile industry. Three problems faced by cotton textile industries in India are (i) Power supply is erratic.

  • Scarcity of Raw Cotton: Indian cotton textile industry suffered a lot as a result of partition because most of the long staple cotton growing areas went to Pakistan.

  • Obsolete Machinery

  • Erratic Power Supply

  • Low Productivity of Labour

  • Strikes

  • Stiff Competition

  • Sick Mills
