. What are the reasons behind establishment of human settlements in India?

The evolution of human settlements is nowhere so closely related to topography and resources as in India. Until the beginning of the industrial age, the pattern of settlements were determined mainly by agriculture, fishing, mining, quarrying, water and defence.
