There are different types of DNA libraries, including cDNA libraries(formed from reverse-transcribed RNA), genomic libraries (formed from genomic DNA) and randomized mutant libraries (formed by de novo gene synthesis where alternativenucleotides or codons are incorporated).

The two types of gene library:
Gene libraries are defined as the libraries or collection of genetic materials in form of sequences that are stored in form of data.
There are different types of gene library. They are:
- cDNA library – It is stored DNA that is produced as an action of the enzyme reverse transcriptase on the RNAs.
- Genomic library – It consists of the genomic DNA of various organisms like humans, rats, etc.
- Mutant library – It is produced from the artificial synthesis of the nucleotides that are often incorporated in the various bacterial DNAs to produce materials of commercial interest.
