Transition metals are those which shows show variable valency and a strong tendency to form coordination compounds, and many of their compounds are coloured.
On the basis of definition of transition metals , scandium and zinc do not count as transition metals - even though they are members of the d block. because they have incompletely filled d subshell and is not called them as a transition metals
