Answer :-
Transposon :-
- Transposon is defined as a D.N.A. segment or genetic element, which moves from one chromosome to another.
- Transposons occur in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms.
- Transposons are present on bacterial chromosomes and on plasmids.
Extra Information :-
- The process of movement of transposons is termed as "Transposition".
- Transposition depends on the recombination of D.N.A. sequences.
- Transposons are autonomous units.
- Each transposon encodes an enzyme called "Transposase" that catalyses it's own transposition.
- The first transpositions were identified in the insertion sequences of E.Coli .
