Answer :-

Transposon :-

  • Transposon is defined as a D.N.A. segment or genetic element, which moves from one chromosome to another.

  • Transposons occur in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms.

  • Transposons are present on bacterial chromosomes and on plasmids.

Extra Information :-

  • The process of movement of transposons is termed as "Transposition".

  • Transposition depends on the recombination of D.N.A. sequences.

  • Transposons are autonomous units.

  • Each transposon encodes an enzyme called "Transposase" that catalyses it's own transposition.

  • The first transpositions were identified in the insertion sequences of E.Coli .
