Here are some general characteristics of solid catalysts:-

1. A catalyst can change their physical state but it will always remain unchanged in chemical composition & mass.

2. In Order to catalyse a reaction there will be need of a very small amount catalyst.

3. It never initiates any reaction it just supports reaction.

4. In case the catalyst is solid then it will work more efficiently if it is finely divided.

5. There will be no affect on the nature of the product even if reaction is done by the help of a catalyst.
