The formation of petroleum, mainly fossil fuel takes place when organisms that are dead, mostly algae and zooplankton get buried under layers of sedimentary rocks and get compressed due to geological factors like pressure and intense heat.Petroleum products include transportation fuels; fuel oils for heating and electricity generation; asphalt and road oil; and feedstocks for making the chemicals, plastics, and synthetic materials that are in nearly everything we use.
