Unwanted plants, other than the crop plants that grow in the fields are called as Weeds.
Some of the most common weeds that grow in Indian fields are grass, wild oat, Amaranth us.
Weeds will effect the productivity of crop because:
1. They compete with crop plant for the basic needs like
----> sunlight
----> water
----> air
----> Nutrients.
Hence weeds should be removed before they flower and bear seeds.
The process of removing weeds is known as Weeding.

Different methods of weeding are followed. They are:.
1. Manually by either pulling out weeds by hands or by using trowel or harrow.
2. Use of weedicides like Metachlor, 2,4,-D etc. Which are poisonous to weeds and humans who are spraying. They do not harm crop plants.
3. By Biological control method :.
Some insects and worms have special liking towards certain weeds on, which they flourish well, by eating and killing them without harming crop plants.
