Gastric juices consists of hydrochloric acid and pepsin.

Function of HCL:

Answer:

The constituents of gastric juice are

1 HCl- it kills pathogens present in food and also provides acidic medium for pepsin to activate.

2 Pepsin- a protein digestive enzyme that converts proteins into peptons.

3 Mucus- protects the inner lining of stomach from the harmful effect of HCl.

Hope this will help :)
